Biographical Text
Henry Medcalf, signing from Bideford, played five times for Exeter City in the club’s final season in the Southern League in 1919/20. He later moved to Swindon Town.
Henry was signed from Bideford in November 1919 after impressing in a North Devon select team that played against Exeter City in a friendly fixture at Barnstaple. Within a week he had been drafted into the team to make his Southern League debut in the 1-0 midweek win at Watford.
Playing at full-back in that game alongside South Molton's Charlie Southcombe, who had also impressed at in the game at Barnstaple, Henry (a converted centre-forward) went on to play four more league matches before leaving at the end of the season to sign for Swindon Town.
