Biographical Text

Scottish-born James Maxsted, a member of the Royal Artillery, played a single Southern League game for Exeter City during 1910/1911. 

James, who was signed by Exeter City on Southern League forms whilst serving locally at Topsham Barracks as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery, played once for the first-team in a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Portsmouth in November 1910.

He also made a significant number of appearances for the reserves after scoring a hat-trick on his debut against St Austell in a Plymouth & District League fixture as well as another three goals in the friendly against the Royal Marines in December 1910.
