LADIES SURPRISE CLASSY CARDIFF

EXETER LADIES FC are though to their second cup final of the season after a thrilling 4-3 win over Cardiff LFC yesterday in the League Cup semi-final. Exeter, usually poor travellers, took time to settle against one of the few good sides they get to play and went two goals down to a classy Cardiff side.

Bridget Thomas pulled a vital goal back for Exeter just before half time, finishing off one of the few good moves they had strung together. There was more trouble early in the second half as Cardiff went 3-1 up but Exeter grew in strength and determination as they game wore on. Annie Hesketh made it 3-2 with a diving header froma fine Thomas cross and Thomas hit a dramatic equaliser as the game boiled up into an exciting climax. With the seconds ticking away and the game into time added on for stoppages, Hesketh burst through to send a tremendous drive crashing into the net for Exeter's winner.

Match Report 2

CARDIFF 3 EXETER 4

This game was the most thrilling of the season for us so far, with Exeter applying the majority of pressure in the first 15 mins. Cardiff soon took control, and battled to get their game together, they played well enough to take the lead, and scored another goal in the first half, only managing to pull a goal back just before half time this is how we faced the second half.
Cardiff kept going and scored again, 3-1 down with ten minuets to go, we at last started to put some good football together, with two quick goals we were in with a chance, and into injury time , we scored the winning goal. For us a place in the final, and for Cardiff, a chance lost.

Goal scorers Annie 2, Bridget 2.

Brenda having a splendid game, was player of the match.
