Managers Report
Welcome to the start of what we hope will be another encouraging season, both on and off the field. On the field we started well, remaining undefeated in our pre-season friendlies, all against good class opposition. Our form then filled me full of optimism but since then we have lost our last two games. Our 6-0 defeat by Llanederyn was a very dissapointing game from our point of view. I couldn't help feeling that our players lacked the full commitment neccessary to win this particular game. Our game at Newport last week was quite different, every player gave 100% effort but after conceeding two penalties and with the oppositions woodwork saving them on several occasions it seemed more than obvious we were never destined to win the game. The score at full time was level at 3-3. At this point I was confident we would win in extra time but in my opinion, two injuries eventually lead us to defeat. The first was to Julie Costello who had to leave the field after 70mins. The second was that of Brenda Frayne who bravely played the last 15 minutes of the game, plus extra-time with a badly sprained ankle. Brenda, knowing we had used both substitutes, struggled on, not really letting on how bad the injury was. It wasn't untill Brenda visited the doctor on Monday that we knew the full extent of her injury. As Manager, it makes me feel rather proud to have players such as Brenda in the Exeter Ladies squad. Subsequently Brenda's injury makes her extremely doubtful for today's game.
