Match Report.
13th September 1987.
TAUNTON 0 EXETER 5
We travelled to Taunton for our first league match of the season. Taunton has managed to get together both a youthful and experienced band of girls, who's football is improving with each game.
The first half was seeing both sides feeling thier way into a new season and touching up the rusty bits left from the summer break. However for us the second half couldn't have been better. We started well and with only 5 mins of the second half gone, Sarah touched the ball from our attack, onto Di who easily slotted the ball convincingly pass the keeper, scoring our first goal of the new season. We began to take command of the game and ten mins later were awarded a free kick from 20 yards out, Sue took the kick, hitting it hard and low straight pass the keeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Our game became more confident with each stride and our attacks more fluent. Within three mins our 3rd goal came from Jan passing the ball to Sarah, who took it on past several defenders and beat the keeper with a well placed shot. Their seemed no stopping us now and 20mins into the second half the ball was not cleared well by a Taunton defender, from a corner, and Julie C. headed the ball back in to the far post where Di, did well to get on the end of it and guide it into the goal. With only 5mins to go we finished a very good second half, by us with a accurate pass from Jackie S. over Taunton's defence to Penny who collected the ball and slotted it away well.
Our team performance was very pleasing and we now look to improve each game as our season takes off, but a flying start for us. Individual Match Award:- JACKIE TANCOCK
