MATCH REPORT

PLYMOUTH 1-2 EXETER

SAMS NEWS CUP 1st ROUND 2nd LEG

We travelled down to Plymouth in absolutely atrocious weather, with the rain lashing down and our vision very limited, however we arrived safely and the pitch was in good condition.

We were already prepared for a hard game and knew that Plymouth would attack right from the whistle. Our game was to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible, this we did and we took control and had at least 75% of the game, The team worked hard and fought well and this paid off in the 30min when the ball was played out from the midfield to Penny on the left wing, and her good fast pace got her in a position to shoot at goal from 20 yards out, and although at a difficult angle did very well with a fine shot to put Exeter into the lead. At halftime, although one up, we had to keep our heads and keep working hard to retain the lead. Some of our foot work and footballing moves were very impressive and we worked as a team with simple football paying off, we were unlucky with several attacks, not taking full advantage and finishing them off as we should.

Then the worst thing happened, our defence lost concentration and with 1 min to full time to go, Plymouth broke through to score two goals and snatch the game from us, leaving us completely stunned and feeling that we had handed the game to them on a plate, after all our hard work and good football.
