MATCH REPORT

EXETER 2-0 CARDIFF


After our disapointing result at Plymouth last week, we were looking to put things right. The game started with mistakes coming from both defences, but also in patches some good football was being played, We were breaking very fast from the back causing some problems for the Cardiff defence.

In the 20th minute we forced a corner, which Jackie T. took, she placed it right in the middle of the 6 yard box over the outstretched arms of Karen Jones the Cardiff Keeper, it was just left for Penny to push the ball over the line for our first goal. The first half was a mixtume of patchy football and missed chances. Unfortunately we also lost Jackie Summers with a broken nose.

In the second half we sussed out our best football was being played on the floor, with Jackie T. Julie C., and Ju T. combining well on the right we started to cause Cardiff a few problems. Mandy L. made a difference in midfield with her precise free kicks. Cardiff were working hard to force the equaliser when we broke down the left, we were awarded a free kick which Mandy L. took and the Cardiff keeper was unable to hold it, the ball came out to the right of the goal just inside the 6 yard box where Julie C. did a spectacular overhead kick into the roof of the net over the Cardiff keeper, for our second goal.

We kept pushing forward with some good football but unfortanably we didnt make the most of our chances. Cardiff came close to pulling one back in the closing stages when they were awarded a corner. The corner was met well but unfortunately headed against the cross bar and luckily for us it went over for a goal kick. The game ended 2-0 in our favour a pleasing result for us.
