Exeter women's cup bid

ON the women's football front on Sunday both Exeter and Tiverton are engaged In dup action.

So Exeter travel to Plymouth to play in the group final of the national W.F.A. Cup the game being rearranged froin Last Sunday.

Tiverton are at home to Llanedeyrn in the quarter-final of the Pat Sowden Cup at Amory Park (2.30p.m.). Julie Dunlop a recent signing by Tiverton likely make her debut.

Ladies lose frosty final

In the area final of the Women's Football Association Cup Exeter narrowly lost to Plymouth on Sunday.

Control of the ball on the frost-bound pitch at Plymouth was difficult and it was a tribute to the skill of both teams that any goals were scored at all.

Julie Rogers, from Plymouth, was first to score, but, just as the whistle for half time was about to be blown, Bridget Thomas equalised for Exeter with a fine shot.

Plymouth began the second half determined to get back on top, so it was not surprising when Jackie Beer and Sarah Amblin scored a goal each to put the home side into a strong position.

Exeter's Debbie Turner quickly pulled a goal back, giving the Exeter ladies new spirit.

The local girls desperately tried to beat the clock without success, losing 3-2.

Plymouth now meet Hull Brewery or Cleveland Rangers on February 3 at home.
