Match 48
22nd April 1995
Barnet (home)
EXETER CITY v BARNET
Saturday 22nd April 1995.
Endsleigh Insurance League Third Division.
MATCH REPORT
Exeter City's truly miserable run of results at St James Park continued , with supporters wondering if they would ever see their side win another match!
Despite enjoying the large share of the play in the first half, when Russell Coughlin sprayed a whole series of pin point passes out to the wide men, the Grecians did not unduly trouble the Barnet defence
As has so often happened this season, the visitors then went into the lead Dave Cooper had hauled back a player for which he was booked and the resulting free kick was floated to the far post where Alex Inglethepe headed in what was the simplest of goals with just four minutes of the half remaming
Barnet stepped up a gear at the start of the second half and immediately forced Peter Fox to make three saves the first of many times he was to be called upon as Exeter visibly fell away to be almost non-existent apart from a brief flurry.
Barnet’s second goal followed when Dougie Freedman broke clear. His attempted chip was partially saved by Fox, but the hall dropped invitingly for Barnet's Mark Cooper to head into an empty net.
That was it as far as the Grecians were concerned, With Mike Cecere working extremely hard up front, without too much support, one could not see them getting back into the match.
However, with just two minutes remaining, Martin Phillips broke down the right, passed inside to Richard Pears who laid the ball back for Mark Cooper to score from ten yards.
Another defeat which only added to the prevalent gloom surrounding the club worrying more about whether they will survive into next season rather than the result against Barnet.
