Billy Lovett born in Bolton, signing from Rochdale in 1913 and leaving to join Blackpool in 1920, played in the Southern League for Exeter City either side of the Great War. He was a member of the team which toured Argentina and Brazil in 1914.
Signed from Rochdale in the summer of 1913, Billy made his Exeter City debut in a 2-0 defeat at Southampton on the opening day of the Southern League season. In his first season at St James’ Park, he netted five goals in 21 league appearances followed by seven goals in 32 matches in 1914/15. Between times he was part of the party that visited Argentina and Brazil in 1914.
Having served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during the Great War, Billy was back in the City side for 1919/20 when he scored five goals in 34 starts.
Leaving St James’ Park in 1920, Billy signed for Blackpool where he made two Football League appearances in a single-season stay before later turning out for Horwich RMI.
