Match 07
7th September 2002
Bournemouth (home)
Exeter 1-3 Bournemouth
Bournemouth, who won only one away game last season, notched their second of this campaign after coming from behind to record an impressive victory at Exeter.
Exeter went ahead after just seven minutes when Andrew Roscoe deflected home a free-kick.
But the visitors responded when slick passing led to Andy Connell chipping a great shot into the net after 38 minutes.
Alex Watson then handled in the area and Wade Elliott scored from the spot.
Steve Flack was replaced by Gareth Sheldon for Exeter due to injury and Derek Holmes and Glenn Cronin were both booked shortly after.
Graeme Power had a shot blocked by Karl Broadhurst as the home side attempted to force an equaliser, and at the other end Stephen Purches' right-foot shot was saved by Kevin Miller.
The scoring was completed when Gareth O'Connor crashed a free-kick home after 73 minutes from just outside the box after he had been fouled.
Exeter's day of disappointment was complete just before that when Santos Gaia was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
