Match 10
17th September 2002
Wrexham (away)
Wrexham 4-0 Exeter City
Wrexham's Andy Morrell scored his first league hat-trick to take his tally to nine in nine games and help condemn poor Exeter to defeat.
There was not much to choose between the two sides in the opening 30 minutes although Wrexham created the better chances.
But just when the home side seemed to be losing control of the game, in-form striker Morrell popped up with two in three minutes.
He headed in Paul Barrett's flighted free-kick on 37 minutes and from the opposite side of the pitch made similar use of Darren Ferguson's set-play.
Two minutes into the second half Ferguson made the game safe with a curling effort after striding through the visitors' backline.
Morrell hit the woodwork on 75 minutes before his shot was handled by Chris Curran with 10 minutes to go.
The defender was sent off and the striker converted the penalty to claim the match ball.
