Exeter City are well on their way now. Two successive home wins have lifted them into fifth place in Division Four.
Three good goals crippled Crewe Alexandra and there was never really any doubt as to the outcome, as Exeter were by far the better side throughout the 90 minutes. Crewe were a spoiling team - a hard outfit. City did lose their way a little in the second half when the game became scrappy, but they soon recaptured their drive to completely trounce the visitors.
Exeter went ahead in the 26th minute. John Templeman hit a superb 30-yard pass to catch Crewe completely flat footed, and Alan Beer did the rest with his swift reaction to lob the ball over Geoff Crudginton.
The second goal came in the 75th minute. A Lammie Robertson free-kick was blocked, but Tony Kellow drove the rebound against the post, only for it to rebound to Peter Hatch who crashed the ball into the net with a left foot shot.
From then on there was never any real doubt as to who was going to win. Exeter scored again in the 80th minute with a superbly executed goal. Once again it was Templeman who started the move. He passed the ball down the right for Robertson to sweep a perfect cross for Beer to side foot into the net.
