ANOTHER INJURY BLOW FOR CITY

Fourth Division..

Attendance: 2,958

Exeter City 0 Workington 0

Exeter City team: Key, Templeman (Weeks), Hore, Morrin, Phillipson-Masters, Hatch, Hodge, Hooker, Robertson, Holman, Jennings.

Workington team: Rogan, Kisby, Ellison, Kavanagh, Ashworth, Leng, Honour, Lowrey, Moore, Donaghy, Goodwin.

Exeter City suffered another injury blow in this game as full-back John Templeman became the latest victim. He could be out of action for at least six weeks after sustaining a cracked rib and a fractured cheekbone in the last minute of the goalless draw with Workington.

City are now down to just 13 fit professionals and are without Alan Beer, Tony Kellow and Mike Jordan, as well as Templeman. It was always going to be a struggle up front for the Grecians, and so it proved. Exeter though, did not play well in what was a poor match. Workington did not help matters, for it was blatantly obvious that they had travelled to Devon for a point by playing several back passes to their keeper.

What little football that was played, and there was not much of it, came from City, but they missed out in front of goal where Lammie Robertson, Harry Holman and Nick Jennings might have scored.

Workington were so unimpressive, yet they so nearly won the game. They were awarded a penalty in the 46th minute, but Ray Ellison put his kick way over the bar. It would have been a grave injustice had the Cumbrians bagged the points, but more worrying for the Grecians is the current injury situation.
