BBC match report –

Two second-half goals handed Exeter an important win against League One strugglers Chesterfield.

Exeter immediately took charge and went ahead when Richard Logan headed in James Dunne's pinpoint pass.

Liam Sercombe's strike from just outside the area sealed the win.

The Grecians move four points clear of the drop zone, while Chesterfield have now gone 16 games without a win in the league and remain rock bottom of the table.

Chesterfield assistant manager Tommy Wright told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Obviously it's very disappointing and I thought it was quite an even game where both teams had opportunities in the first half.

"The penalty miss deflated us and then we lost two poor goals. When people miss penalties you have to be more disciplined, you have to dig in and try and get a 0-0.

"They got a free header for the first goal from a cross into the box and it shouldn't have happened really. We were all over the place for the second goal."

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:

"I can ask no more of the team. They did exactly as I asked.

"We were thoroughly committed and played some good football. It seemed like one of those days.

"It all hinged on that penalty. I think it would have been tough justice had we lost the game."
