Biographical Text

Scottish-born Billy Dunlop played a handful of games for Exeter City early in the 1950/51 season. He joined the club from Dunfermline and later played for Ilfracombe before returning to the Football League with Bradford Park (Avenue) and Darlington ahead of living out his life in Devon.

Starting his career with Kilsyth Rangers, Billy subsequently signed for nearby Scottish League team Dunfermline Athletic from where he signed for Exeter City in June 1950. Making his debut in the second match of the season against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on 23 August 1950, he retained his place in the side for the next three games up until the match against Walsall on 2 September. Dropping to the reserves, he never featured for the first-team again and left the club in the summer of 1951.

Remaining in Devon, Billy signed for Ilfracombe Town before  Bristol Rovers offered him a professional contract in May 1952. Failing to made the first-team at Eastville, he enjoyed better luck with his May 1953 move to Bradford (Park Avenue) where he scored a dozen goals in 36 league matches. Transferred to Darlington in October 1954, he stayed for the remainder of the season scoring twice in 18 league outings prior to heading back to the South West and signing for Bideford.

Playing for Exmouth Town from June 1957, Billy later turned out for former Grecian Frank Houghton’s 'Old Stars’ team and died in the Torbay area on 8 August 1994.
