BBC Match Report –
MK Dons leapfrogged Exeter into seventh place in League One thanks to a strike from Aaron Wilbraham.
The visitors dominated the first half but failed to capitalise with Ryan Harley firing straight at David Martin.
The Dons improved after the break though and Wilbraham put them ahead, picking up Mark Carrington's pass before slotting past Paul Jones.
Exeter rallied late on but could not find an equaliser with Martin saving well from Ryan Harley and John O'Flynn.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"It's an old cliche, but they (the supporters) do at times become your 12th man. It's amazing what you can find in your reserves. It's a special stadium and we are making into a fortress.
"I wasn't too happy with the way we started the game. Maybe I got it wrong tactically and I accept full responsibility for that.
"I changed it at half-time to counter what was a very good Exeter team. We changed our mentality towards the game and I thought we looked the better team."
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"It's difficult to know what to say because we did play extremely well but we lost.
"I think at the moment we're extremely disappointed that we've lost a game that we were so clearly in such a good position to win.
"It appeared to me that we beat MK Dons in most departments of the game today, other than the scoreline."
