BBC match report –

Andy Monkhouse scored a brace as Hartlepool saw off Exeter.

Poor defending cost the Grecians the points, and Monkhouse was the main beneficiary as he drilled past Ben Hamer from the edge of the box.

The striker got his second when Billy Jones' poor attempt at an offside trap left him free to fire in off the post.

Jamie Cureton's neatly-taken volley made it 2-1 and he could have snatched a late point, only for keeper Scott Flinders to repel his header.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"I'm disappointed to lose but not disappointed with the performance because I thought it was pretty fair today.

"I thought we played quite well, but it's a really difficult place to play. We're a team built for football but you can't play football here and it's very difficult for us.

"The emphasis is on the home side to make the play but that's extremely difficult."
