On Tuesday night the gloom which filled the air after Saturday's "giveaway" was lifted as Biggins sparkled and inspired the Clarets to an emphatic 4-0 win. But Biggins's impressive start to life at Turf Moor is unlikely to stop manager John Bond searching for further fire-power. He was unsuccessful in bids to bring Ian Wallace and Scott McGarvey on loan, but having released several players this week the door has been opened for new blood to be introduced. The first half of Tuesday's match was a dour affair but the Clarets en- joyed a 1-0 interval lead thanks to an 18th minute penalty. Dennis Tueart converted from the spot after the energetic Big- gins had been bundled in the area. Exeter replied with a "goal" from Steve Neville but referee Mr M. J. Heath ruled the effort out for an infringement. There was little good football in the first half but Brian Flynn hit the side netting, Biggins went close with two diving headers and birthday-boy Martin Dobson hit a great long range shot.
After the break Burnley were a different side. Tommy Hutchison and Derek Scott plundered the wings while Dobson and Willie Donachie sup- plied great balls through the middle. In the 66th minute Flynn effectively won the game with a great soaring header after Scott had made a great run and 15 minutes later Michael Phelan scored a fine solo goal. Biggins gave him the ball in his own half but Phelan set his sights on goal and beat three players on his way. His final shot was not well struck but took a deflection and went in. Four minutes later Phelan set-up the final goal. He released Scott down the wing and Scott's cross was expertly headed home by Biggins
