Reserves steer Wrexham through.
Wrexham 2 Exeter 0
Report by John Hall

TWO reserve team players drafted in to give the senior men a shake-up lifted Wrex- ham into the third round of The Associate Member's Cup. A brilliant goal by 18-year- old Andy Edwards set then on the way and another of the youngsters brought into the side, Darren Baker, sealed it for them. Edwards robbed former Emgland captain Gerry Francis and placed an angled shot over the head of Exeter's keeper, Len Bond. Baker finished smartly for No 2 when David Gregory broke on the right. The first shot from Edwards was blocked and the rebound was snapped up and fired home. Match plans were upset when loan goalkeeper Ron Sinclair dislocated a finger in training yesterday when set to make his senior debut. Gren- ville Millington was recalled, playing with his injured right thigh heavily bandaged and
he needed all his experience. He kept the slender lead intact when Exeter showed more fighting spirit than had been expected from the lowest club in the Third Division. He tipped away a 25 yard drive from Mark O'Conner and held a dangerous inswinging corner from Ray Pratt. His injured thigh took another hefty blow as he parried a fierce shot from Steve Neville and caught it at the second attempt as Roy McDonough's charge sent him sprawling. The verbal lashing from manager Bobbie Roberts after Saturday's dismal league showing seemed to have had the desired effect. A new eagerness suggested that Wrexham had at last found their sense of purpose. An early penalty appeal was turned down as they pushed up in an early raid and Baker was brought down. A 25 yard shot from Medwyn Evans flew over the bar and another from Neil Salathiel was touched on to the bar before being turned away for a corner. Salathiel went through on the left and crossed, forcing Bond to punch out into the path of Evans whose shot was deflected for a corner.
