Two goals from Alan Banks gave Exeter City the double over the visitors, The game was affected by an awkward swirling wind, but County quickly settled down and stunned City by going into a 7th minute lead, Graham Parker failed to control the ball and Mulvaney nipped in to lob it over Bob Wilson into the goal, Exeter were guilty of bunching instead of spreading the play. John Mitten made a dreadful pass and Llloyd shot just too high, County should have scored again in the 37th minute but with only Wilson to beat, Price fired into the side netting, Exeter had the wind in their favour in the second half and needed to take advantage of it. In the 52nd minute Mitten's corner was pushed onto the bar and Banks was on the spot to ram home the equaliser from the rebound, Exeter began to move forward more now and in the 78th minute went into the lead, Again Banks was the scorer sweeping home a cross from Fred Binney. In the closing minutes Lloyd gave City a scare shooting narrowly wide.
