Banks masters Darlington
DARLINGTON were well beaten by a more work manlike and competent Exeter City at St. James's Park. Only Peter Graham looked dangerous as Exeter got their revenge for a defeat 3-2 at Feethams earlier in the season. The man who sank Darlington was ace goal- scorer Allan Banks-he scored his 98th League goal for his club and made the other. Darlington were slow to settle down and indeed neither side had a direct shot at goal until the 17th minute and then it pro duced a goal. Banks raced past Peverell and his cross found Win gate and the City winger slammed a first time right foot shot past a helpless Moor. But just 30 seconds later Darlington were put back in the match, Direct from the restart Graham won a tussle in midfield and running on, unleashed a 30 yard drive which easily beat Wilson, Darlington began to settle down and the effervescent Graham gave Exeter strong trio of Balsom, Giles and Parker some anxious moments-but the visitors failed to grip the match in midfield. Exeter' City took the lead again in the 24th minute when Banks scored at the third attempt. He raced through-beating off a despairing tackle by Peverell but his shot was beaten out by Moor. As it ran loose Binney raced in for the kill but again Moor was able to palm away this time Banks made no mistake.
CITY FORM CLUB TO ATTRACT 500 YOUNG FANS.
An Exeter City Junior Supporters Club was launched by the club today, and the aim behind the formation is to sell professional football to the younger generation, who are the regular St James' Park followers of tomorrow. It is open to boys and girls who are 16 and under and the membership fee is 40 pence. A programme of events have been planned, including talks by players, referee's, football films, quizzes, and 5 a side tournaments. Walter Rice, City Director, is to chair the new club, he will be contacting schools in the Exeter area asking them to cooperate, He is confident that the club will have 500 members within the first year and is optimistic that this could increase providing they keep up an interesting programme.
