Match 45
12th April 1971
Lincoln City (h)

McInally the star

EXETER CITY 0-0 LINCOLN CITY

JOHN MCINALLY, Lincoln's 19-year-old goalkeeper, played a major part in earning his side's second away point of Easter at Exeter, yesterday. He produced two brilliant saves in particular from Graham Parker and Allan Banks, and Lincoln left with a 0-0 draw to slightly ease their re-election worries. In front of the outstanding Melnally, Lincoln put up a defensive screen of eight play- ers, and they reduced Exeter to long range shots from which the goalkeeper did so well. Winger Bill Taylor played behind the defence as a sweeper, and the front running was left for the most part to Dave Smith and Phil Hubbard. Smith, in fact, almost put Lincoln in front right at the start of the second half when he had a hard angled shot blocked by Bob Wilson.
