Jimmy Blain normally a full back, but converted to a front runner at Northampton, gave City their first Fourth Division point of the season with an expertly taken goal, Former Exeter player Dixie McNeil almost put his side in front after just 8 minutes but Bob Wilson made a brilliant pont blank save. Three minutes later John Wingate had a header pushed onto the bar by Starling, Wilson came to City's rescue again in the 38th minute saving well from Felton, In the 47th minute Exeter went into the lead, a long ball from Tony Morrin found Blain who expertly chipped the ball into the net. This was the start of a good spell for City, who with the wind behind them, were loooking the more dangerous,

The Cobblers started to push forward and in the 62nd minute equalised, Felton outpaced both John Newman and Graham Parker, before centreing for the unmarked McNeil to head home, Northampton continued to pressure the City defence and only heavy tackles on Felton and McNeil cut out dangerous situations, City did not take as much advantage of the wind as might have been expected, even allowing for the fact that they were the away side,

CITY BOSS INVITES THE ROWDIES.

Two Exeter City officials, director Walter Rice, and manager John Newman, have thrown out an invitation to the St James' Park rowdies to meet them in man to man talks in a bid to cool the simmering terrace trouble at the ground, The club are concerned about the recent troubles at the Park, Rice wants to meet thses young men to explain their problems and the clubs and then perhaps enlist their assistance at the ground to make Exeter City a club that they will be proud to support, but a little less militantly.
