Exeter City ran and worked hard. They had enough of the ball and enough opportunities to have made sure that it was not so tight as it turned out to be at the end, Still it was a good result for the City considering they had only 13 fit players to choose from. Dave Gibson had his best match since signing from Aston Villa, His accurate distribution should have produced better results on more than beone occasion, 10 micant of non potopnoease and t Jimmy Blain and Jimmy Giles showed strength and determination at the back, Exeter's defence though were at sixes and sevens in the pepning minutes, and they could have lost the match there and then, Ironically though the match was decided in the 6th minute by the only goal from Exeter, Mike Balson scored with a powerful header from Dave Gibson's corner. Doncaster played some impressive football particularly in the first half. They were unlucky not to have gained at least a point. from the match, Twice Blain had to clear off the City goal line. Exeter's narrow win means they have now taken 13 points from their last 10 games, a significant factor in that run is that only five goals have been scored against Exeter.
