Reading were the visitors to St James Park which saw the debut of Exeter City goalkeeper Steve R Nute. The Cornish youngster replaced the injured lan Main and gave a good performance in the Grecians 3-1 win in front of an attendance of 3,890. Reading also included a debutant in tall defender Mike Barnes, and had Gary Heale in their team who had previously spent a short period on loan at Exeter City making four appearances. lan Pearson netted twice, with Tony Kellow notching the other goal. Mike Kearney was the Reading goalgetter. The win extended City's unbeaten run to seven league matches, however this was to be the last match they won! Only three draws were obtained in the final seven matches of the season. The 1980-81 season would of course be recalled for the tremen- dous F.A. Cup run by the Grecians in reaching the sixth round before being knocked out at Tottenham Hotspur.
