Chester grab key point

Exeter City 2, Chester 2:

Battling Chester earned the point they needed to virtually ensuer Third Divi- sion football next season. Twice they came from behind when it looked as if Exeter had the game sewn up.

They got off to a bad start when Exeter grabbed a 14th minute lead, Peter Hatch corner was headed in by top scorer Tony Kellow to bring his goal total to 32 this season Chester did not impress in the first half, but in the 55th minute they beat Exeter's offside trap for Brynley Jones to equalise. Their hopes slumped again in the 61st minute when a Peter Hatch long throw led to Ray Pratt firing Exeter back in front. But Chester refused to throw in the towel, and in the 66th minute they equalised again when a deep cross from Paul Raynor was headed in by Ian Howat. Chester's goal bore a charmed life after that, and keeper Grenville Millington made two superb saves to keep Exeter out as they grabbed the crucial point.
