Eight booked in Burnley battle
17th October 1981
REFEREE Keith Hackett, who officiated at last season's F.A. Cup final, booked eight men, seven of them from Exeter, in a pulsating 3-3 battle at Burnley.
Burnley had gone ahead through Steve Taylor but Exeter hit back to take the lead with goals from Tony Kellow and Mike Lester. Within a minute of Exeter's second goal Burnley were awarded a penalty that started the bookings. Peter Rogers protested and was cautioned - and Martin Dobson saw his spot kick saved by Bond. Vince Overson headed a 49th-minute equaliser for Burnley after which Exeter's Marker, Bond and Delve were booked for dissent and Cooke, Roberts and Davey for fouls.
Bond's booking was for protesting about a 62nd-minute penalty, from which Brian Laws put Burnley 3-2 ahead. After Burnley's Wharton was cautioned in the 65th minute, Cooke snatched an equaliser for Exeter three minutes from time.
