Match 14
20th October 1981
Fulham (a)
Davies at the double
Fulham 4, Exeter 1
STRIKER Gordon Davies was within an ace of a hat-trick as Fulham made it seven goals in the last four days last night. The Londoners continued their march up the table, brushing aside Exeter, who have given away fifteen goals in six away matches.
Davies put Fulham on the way with goals after 22 and 25 minutes, both from strong shots. Exeter who were shaky at the back, retaliated through Joe Cooke after 34 minutes. But Fulham really went to town in the second half, grabbing their biggest win of the season. Glancing headers from Sean O'Driscoll, after 57 minutes, and Roger Brown, after 77 minutes, demoralised Exeter. And Davies so nearly made it a third with two late efforts. The first was a shot which flew just wide, the second was another shot which keeper Len Bond saved.
