Scunthorpe (h)
Exeter City 2-0 Scunthorpe
18th September 1985
A Tony Kellow penalty set Exeter City on the road to victory over visiting Scunthorpe United, for what was only the Grecians second win in the opening six Fourth Division matches. Steve Harrower added a second City goal as Scunthorpe slipped to a 2-0 defeat. The Grecians gave former Swansea City striker Darren Gale his debut before a poor and worrying attendance of just 1,723. With Exeter already languish- ing in the bottom four, per- haps the low turnout was not surprising. One familiar face in the Scunthorpe United side was Mike Lester who had previously spent a short spell at Exeter City four years earlier before moving on to Bradford City. Substitute Julian Broddle was to later have spell at a Plymouth Argyle.
