County are so careless
STOCKPORT carelessly threw away a chance to strengthen their promo- tion claims.
Two points were wasted as County were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by struggling Exeter at Edgeley Park last night.
Even a desperate late rally by the home side failed with Exeter goalkeeper John Shaw twice denying them in the anxious closing minutes.
Andy Thorpe had a shot blocked while Malcolm Poskett and Mark Wroe saw even better efforts turned aside by acrobatic Shaw. Yet Poskett was handed the game's best chance as early as the 17th minute but he shot over from no more than half a dozen yards out following a free kick by Andy Hodkinson.
Poskett, who joined County with a reputation as a prolific marksman, has yet to hit the target in four games and
his latest display left much to be desired.
Player-boss Les Chapman, too, dipped below his own high standards as Stockport failed to achieve the victory that would have hoisted them to fifth place. Exeter, who had not previously scored in 10 hours of football, were there for the taking. But they took a shock 20th minute lead with Warren Ward, in only his second league game, heading in from a Martin Ling cross on the right. Wroe equalised a minute from half time after a Poskett cross in front of goal was driven back into the middle by Hodkinson.

Wroe (44) for County;
Ward (20) for Exeter.
