Having already appeared for St Sidwell’s United, J S Keech featured during the first season of the recently-renamed Exeter City in 1904/05. He continued to play for the first-team until 1906/07. 

He featured for St Sidwell’s United in 1903/04 before playing twice for Exeter City in each of the the 1904/05 and 1905/06 seasons.

Making his debut for the City club in October 1904, he was described by the Western Times as a "fine dashing player and it is hoped that he will turn out on a regular basis". Around this time he also played for East Devon against West Devon.
