Birmingham C (a)
Nifty Nigel nips in to boost Blues.
Birmingham (0) 1 (Gleghorn 78mins)
Exeter (0) 0.
Attendance 11.319
Donowa's strong running caused problems and on one occasion saw a cross-shot beaten away off the line by Andy Cook. Exeter looked more than useful on the break and Gary Chapman will he disappointed to have headed over when he rose to meet Tom Kelly's left- wing cross. There were few choice moments in a dreary first-half in which the visitors, with six changes to the side that last played at St Andrew's, had a couple of half-chances. Four players were booked including Simon Sturridge, who unwittingly raised the tempo of the game after Steve Williams went down for a spot of play acting after an innocuous challenge from the little striker. Both sides were enraged for entirely different reasons and the tackles flew in thereafter right to the end of the game. It must have made interesting watching for the Aston Villa team, who took the opportunity of a free Saturday to watch their second-City neighbours.
