BBC match report –

Nationwide Conference leaders Hereford moved into the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy with victory over Exeter.

Hereford dominated the first half but former Manchester United striker David Brown was guilty of missing a number of chances, hitting the woodwork just before the break.

But Brown finally got the goal he deserved a minute into the second half.

His initial shot also cannoned back of the woodwork but he was on hand to fire in the rebound.

Leslie Afful nearly levelled for Exeter with nine minutes left but his shot was well saved by Mathew Baker.

As Exeter continued to press for the equaliser Stephen Guinan ended their hopes with a second for Hereford, who will now meet Third Division Northampton in the next round.

Hereford: Baker, Green, Mkandawire, Teesdale, Rose, Williams, Pitman, King, Parry, Guinan, Brown. Subs: Scott, James, Moon, Carey-Bertram, Craven.

Exeter: Rice, Duncan, Jeannin, Gaia, Moxey, McConnell, Taylor, Cronin, Sheldon, Canham, Flack. Subs: Bittner, Todd, Afful, Reed, Lee.
