Exeter scored two quick-fire goals to put their play-off hopes back on track.
Midfielder Sean Canham broke the deadlock with his first goal for the club as he headed home a cross from striker Les Afful.
A James Coppinger penalty doubled their lead after Dagenham keeper Danny Naisbitt brought down Afful in the box.
Santos Gaia hit the post for the visitors, while Dagenham went close but Exeter keeper James Bittner kept out Chris Piper's close-range effort.
