Edmondson, John (James)
Lancastrian James Edmondson played half-a-dozen times for Exeter City in 1923 having joined the club from Swansea Town. Hit by injury during his time at St James' Park, he had featured for Leeds City and Sheffield Wednesday earlier in his career.
James commenced his career with Lancashire side Leyland before appearing for Leeds City (11 appearances six goals) between 1914 and 1919 ahead of moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 1919/20 where he netted twice in 14 league outings. James then enjoyed a successful three-year stay with Swansea Town for whom he scored 33 goals in 60 league appearances
Signing for Exeter City in 1923, ahead of offers from several other clubs, much was expected of James when he made a goalscoring debut against Reading at St James’ Park on 22 September 1923. But, after playing in the next five matches without scoring again, he dislocated a shoulder at home to Brighton and Hove Albion and didn't appear in City's colours again before announcing his retirement from the game.
