Morecambe paid a heavy price for Jim Bentley's first-half dismissal.

Bentley was shown a straight red card after hauling down Sean Canham inside the penalty area and James Coppinger swept home the penalty with aplomb.

Soon after the interval Sean Canham extended Exeter's lead when he met Leslie Afful's cross with a header.

The provider turned goalscorer six minutes later when Afful added a third goal with a crisp shot which beat Ian Dunbavin low to his right.
