Exeter City 4 Reading 6.

An amazing game of football between Exeter City and Reading produces ten goals, and sadly three Grecians car- ried off the field. City lost Jason Minett in the first minute with a nasty cut on his knee, and then had to replace debutant keeper Andy Gosney with the half fit Peter Fox. To add to their troubles Exeter trailed 4-1 at half time, but a tremendous fight back pulled the game around to make it 4-4. Reading scored two more as Jon Brown was helped off injured to reduce the City to ten men. Ronnie Jepson and Micky Ross scored two goals each for City before an attendance of 4,725. Quinn, Lovell and Taylor all netted two goals apiece for the visitors.

Exeter City: Andy Gosney (Peter Fox), Jason Minett (Jon Brown), Ronnie Robinson, Danny Bailey, Scott Daniels, Peter Whiston, Stuart Storer, Russell Coughlin, Ronnie Jepson, Mickey Ross, Steve Wigley.

Reading : Hislop, Ranson, Kerr, McPherson, Hopkins, Scott, Taylor, Dillon, Quinn, Lovell, Gooding.

Exeter v Reading highlights

  • Off the field events again dominate proceedings as the expected takeover by former chairman Ivor Doble is held up, as club president Clifford Hill inserts a few clauses in the agreement before handing over his 51 per cent majority shareholding. News of this provokes a walk out of match stewards which for a time put the game against Reading in doubt on safety grounds. Mr. Doble explains the situation to the crowd at half time and asks for their continued support.

The City reserves travel to Exmouth Amateurs new ground at Warren View and win 3-0 with goals from Craig Taylor, Andy Harris and Jason Percival.

Earlier that morning, the Under 18 team defeat Yeovil Town 5-1 in the Westcountry Television South West Counties team.
