FA Cup first round.
It's F.A. Cup first round day, and Exeter City travel to Farnborough Town, Martin Phillips is brought into the team for his first ever senior start, and goalkeeper Peter Fox makes a return in place of Kenny Veysey. Things do not look too good for the Grecians as Jones fires the home side into a 42nd minute lead in the pouring rain. A half- time blasting from manager Alan Ball appears to have the desired affect, as City promptly score three goals in seven minutes to win the tie. Ball describes the Grecians first half performance as the worst he had seen since joining the club. Gary Worthington grabs the first goal in the 76th minute, and he is quickly followed with goals form Ronnie Jepson (81st), and Mickey Ross (83rd).
Farnborough Town: Taylor, Stemp, Pratt, Broome, Coney, Jones, Boothe, Read, Baker, Turkington, Horton.
Exeter City: Fox, Minett, Robinson (Daniels), Bailey, Brown, Whiston, Wigley, Coughlin, Jepson, Ross, Phillips (Worthington).
- The City under 18 side win 1-0 at the Cat and Fiddle against Cheltenham Town in the South West Counties League, courtesy of a 15th minute goal from trialist lan Ford.
