Despite taking an early lead courtesy of a Mark Monington own goal, the City lose narrow- ly to Burnley who were unbeat- en on their Turf Moor ground. Ronnie Jepson nets a second Exeter goal seven minutes from time, but it is not enough to prevent Burnley winning 3- 2. All of Burnley's goals come in a nine minute spell either side of the interval, from David Eyres, Kevin Russell, and John Francis. Andy Harris makes his first appearance of the season for the City first team.
