FA Cup second round replay. 1-1 after extra-time. Exeter win 5-4 on penalties.

Exeter City progress to round three of the F.A. Cup after a dramatic win over Leyton Orient. The second round replay is decided on a penalty shoot-out with the Grecians edging home 5-4. In far from ideal playing con- ditions, City twice fought their way back to equalise and take the match into extra time.

Orient took the lead in the 51st minute when Danny Carter headed home follow- ing a corner. Within three minutes however, it was all square when Stuart storer fired a cross shot into the net, Orient again took the lead in extra time after 95 minutes, when Warren Hackett scrambled the ball home. The best goal of the match came in the 98th minute a superbly struck 25 yard shot by Andy Harris.

Peter Fox saved no fewer than three of the Orient penalites during the shoot out, the dramatic cup tie end- ing with Jon Brown netting the winning spot kick, which led to celebrations on the pitch. The majority of the attendance of 3,628 were then looking forward to Aston Villa.
