The Grecians slipped to a 3-0 win defeat at the Abbey Stadium in an entertaining. game against Cambridge United. Chances were creat- ed at both ends, but United had the edge when it came to finishing. They took a 25th minute lead through Steve Claridge and added further goals in the 58th minute and 83rd minute with goals from Canadian International Carlo Corazzin and Steve Butler respectively.

Exeter were still very much in the game at the start of the second half, and almost equalised when Simon Davies was denied by Cambridge keeper John Filan. His best save had come in the first half howev- er, when he brilliantly turned away a magnificent 30 yard effort from Mickey Ross.
