After a promising first half, Exeter City had to settle for a point against visiting Rotherham United. Mickey Ross had ended the Grecians goal drought a minute before the interval after a good run and cross by debutant Mark Gavin. With another new boy, Robbie Turner, playing well in defence, the City looked to be heading for an all important win.

Rotherham United had other ideas however, and pulled a 61st minute goal back through lan Helliwell, whose shot beat Peter Fox rebounding into the net off a post. Fox was outstanding throughout the match making a string of good saves. In the latter period of the second half both sides had chances to have won the game, Russell Coughlin and Stuart Storer both having good opportunites for the Grecians.

Exeter City: Peter Fox, Jason Minett, Toby Redwood, Mark Cooper (Danny Bailey), Scott Daniels, Mickey Ross, Stuart Storer, Russell Coughlin, Robbie Turner, Nicky Morgan (Gary Worthington), Mark Gavin.

Rotherham U: Matthew Clarke, Chris Wilder, Wayne Jacobs, Andy Williams, Tony Brien, Scott Marshall, lan Banks, Shaun Goodwin, lan Helliwell (Shaun Goater), Imre Varadi, Glyn Roberts.

  • Exeter City supporter John Brooks becomes the latest lucky person to win the top £2,000 prize in the club lottery. he is presented with his cheque by Grecians Chairman Ivor Doble during the half time interval on the pitch. Still on the Commercial scene, the club announce the launch of a new fundraising scheme to be called Star Ball, which is a variation of the popular Spot the Ball competitions. Top prize will be £5,000.
  • The Exeter City 'A' team continued their winning ways in the Devon and Exeter Premier League with a 4-0 victory over visiting Chelston at the Cat and Fiddle. On target for the City are Darren Welsh 2, Gary Rice, and Chris White.

  • The top of the table clash between Exeter City and Cardiff City in the Westcountry Television South West Counties Youth League is called off, due to a waterlogged pitch at the Cat and Fiddle.
