Match 07
2 September 1995.
Scunthorpe U (h)
SATURDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER 1995
THIRD DIVISION
EXETER CITY 1 SCUNTHORPE UNITED O
Exeter City moved to sixth spot in the Third Division table thanks to a rare headed goal from Danny Bailey in the 22nd minute. City started brightly and looked full of confidence following their midweek win at Cardiff. They were rewarded with a goal when Richard Pears fed Mark Cooper whose cross was nodded home by the unmarked Bailey.
City's defence once again held firm and showed why they are one of the meanest in the entire Football League, as for much of the second half Scunthorpe enjoyed the lions share of possession but could find no way through the Grecians rearguard. The one opportunity they did get a poor backpass latched onto by Young, the Scunthorpe substitute was denied a shot by a well executed tackle by Jon Richardson
Cooper almost made it 2-0 in an isolated attack, when first he fired over the bar and then sixty seconds later headed narrowly wide.
Jamie Morgan (in photo) made his debut for City, in the slightly unfamiliar role of right back replacing the injured Nel Parsley.
