Match 15
17th October 1995
Brentford (a)

TUESDAY 17th OCTOBER 1995.

AUTO WINDSCREENS SHIELD QUALIFYING GROUP.

BRENTFORD 1 EXETER CITY 1.

Exeter City gave themselves a great chance of progressing to the next stage of the Auto Windscreen Shield as they drew 1-1 at Second Division Brentford. The Grecians who gave 18 year old Nicky Medlin (photo) his first team debut, made several changes to the team that had suffered a 4-0 home reverse at the hands of Wigan Athletic three days earlier.

It was City who took the lead after 18 minutes, when a fierce shot from Danny Bailey, following a corner, was deflected by Mark Came past Deardon into the net. Brentford fought their way back into the game, but were gifted an equaliser in the 40th minute when Peter Fox made an uncharacteristic error. He advanced out of his area and nodded the ball straight to Nick Forster who had the simple task of rounding the keeper and tapping the ball into an empty net. City's player-manager made up for his error two minutes into the second half when he produced a superb full stretch save to tum away Forster's close range header. With Brentford assured of a place in the next round of the Shield, the second half didn't really produce anything of any note for the small attendance to enthuse about, although the Grecians will have left Grittin Park satisfied with their night's work Team:
