Match 16
21st October 1995
Hereford U (a)
SATURDAY 22nd OCTOBER 1995.
ENDSLEIGH LEAGUE DIVISION 3
HEREFORD UNITED 2
EXETER CITY 2.
Exeter City, although pleased with a point at Hereford, were nevertheless disappointed that they didn't hang on to all three after taking a 2-0 lead early in the second half. Making a welcome return to the City side was assistant manager Noel Blake, whilst Paul Buckle, on loan from Torquay, retained his starting place after a good debut the previous week.
Although Peter Fox was by far the busier goalkeeper of the two in the first haf, Hereford didn't unduly trouble the City defence. After a cautious opening, remembering that they had conceded early goals in their previous away league matches, the City began to push forward after the interval and were rewarded by taking the lead in the 48th minute when Hereford's Steve Blatherwick headed past his own keeper following a City corner. Just four minutes later the Grecians appeared to be well on course for victory as Paul Buckle was left totally unmarked to head past Chris MacKenzie in the Hereford goal. Steve White put the home side back in the game, however, when he prodded home in the 58th minute.
City were reduced to ten men after Mark Gavin was shown the red card for his second bookable offence. With six minutes of the match remaining Blatherwick made up for his earlier own goal by scoring Hereford's equaliser
