Match 17
28th October 1995
Lincoln C (h)

SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER 1995.

ENDSLEIGH LEAGUE DIVISION 3.

EXETER CITY 1 LINCOLN CITY 1.

After Martin Phillips had fired Exeter into a 19th minute lead, the Grecians should and could have gone on to claim all three points to end a winless run. But the game, which was far from being memorable, ended with honours even as Lincolns new signing Jason Bamett headed home the equaliser in the 33rd minute.

Under newly appointed manager John Beck, Lincoln's style of play was perhaps predictable, and a style which will undoubtedly begin to reap it's rewards away from home, even though it is far from attractive to watch for supporters.

Philips put City in front following a Matthew Hare free-kick which was nodded on by both John Richardson and Richard Pears in turn, the City winger volleying home a goal he deserved for his overall contribution to the match Lincoin were all square when Barnett climbed above Gary Rice to nod in Tony Daws deep far post cross.

The closest City came to regaining the lead in the second half was when a blistering drive from Richardson was excellendy tipped over the bar by Lincoln keeper Barry Richardson. Not really creating too much up front, the
City almost snatched three points when Philips 88th minute effort was ruled offside.
