Match 22
18th November 1995
Preston North End (h)

18th November 1995

Endsleigh League Division 3

EXETER CITY 1
PRESTON NORTH END 1.

If sheer effort and commitment won games then surely Exter City would have claimed all three points. Instead they were denied victory by a relieved Preston North End side who scored their equaliser in injury time. This was a real blow for the Grecians who seemed set to record their first victory since September, but the performance they gave was appreciated by the supporters who gave them a great reception at the final whistle.

City started the game brightly with Jon Richardson surging forward and playing a one-two which ended with him narrowly firing wide of the far post. City, with Micky Ross making a return following his loan signing from Plymouth Argyle, did not look unduly troubled by Preston with the defence as usual coping very well.

Exeter took the lead in the 26th minute, if somewhat fortuitously. A cross from Richardson was deflected off the shoulder of Preston's Andy Savills and the ball looped into the net. In the second half Mark Gavin

made several good runs down the left, but apart from a couple of efforts from Ross, City never really threatened the Preston keeper. With time running out Exeter were pushed more and more back into defence as the visitors sought an equaliser. This came into stoppage time when a cross from the left found David Moyes on the far post and he bundled the ball home.
