Match 33
3rd February 1996
Scarborough U (a)

Saturday 3rd February 1996

Third Division

SCARBOROUGH 0 EXETER CITY 0

The Grecians proved that they becoming a hard team to break down as they kept their second successive clean sheet.
Manchester City winger John Sharpe made his debut for City having been signed on loan, whilst Leon Braithwaite was given his first start in the team.

City once again played good football at times particularly in the first half and could have taken the lead on a couple of occasions. Paul Buckle had a lobbed effort cleared off the line, while Sharpe fired just wide after being set up by Braithwate. Sharpe looked good down the right and in one run he left a trail of defencers before firing over the crossbar.

Scarborough did get back into the game as the interval approached, and were certainly a much better looking outfit in the second hat as they began to test the City defence for the first time. The Grecians still had their chances though, with substitute Nicky Medlin almost snatching a late winner, but was beaten to the ball by the home keeper, Ironside

The game was watched by the lowest crowd in the Football League this season, just 1307 spectators bothering to turn up. One begins to realise how lucky Exeter Chy are with crowds averaging around 3.500 at St James Park this season
