The Grecians knocked another nail in Torquay United's Third Division coffin as they survived an opening 20 minute salvo from the Guls and by the end of the game had comfortably won 2-0. Torquay could have had a couple of goals in that opening spell but their finishing was poor. Slowly City began to get on top and they took the lead in The 41st minute when Paul Buckle's free-kick was deftly headed home by Lee Bradbury with the United defence rooted to the spot.

It was virtually all Exeter in the second half. spart from the odd furry from Torquay, with the speed of Leon Braithwaite (improving with every game) and Bradbury proving a real handful for the home defence. It was Mark Gavin's pin paint pass that sent Braithwate away in the 26th minute, only for the City sinker to be brought down in the area. Mark Cooper dispatched the spot kick and from thes on there was no doubt that the points would be going back to St James Park
